Formula 5000 is to make a triumphant return to Australia is a new series which will see its races split between Australia and New Zealand as it aims to recreate a summer Tasman Series and will see seven rounds to run over December and January.
The new series that has been dubbed 'Formula Thunder 5000 is led by former Australian Touring Car Championship privateer Chris Lambden. The prototype which is pictured above has been build and open-wheel builder Mike Borland and uses a Swift Formula Nippon based chassis. As the 5000 name goes it means it is powered by a five-litre Ford Coyote V8 based engine producing a impressive 570 horsepower. The overall weight of around 680kg. This is very close to the power and weight ratio of the original F5000 cars.
