It was a rainy start to the second round of the 750 Motor Club season with drivers trying to cope with the rather wet conditions on track. Even though drivers took care during the rain, we didn't miss out on all the action that we expect from the championships. The event at Oulton Park was a one day affair featuring all of the championships that weren't at Donington Park last time around. It was the first time that the 750MC had returned to Oulton Park in a number of years. Championships racing were: 5Club MX5 Championship, Tegiwa Civic Cup, Disklok RGB Championship, Cartek Roadsports, Protech Shocks Sport Specials and ROC Bikesports. A varying array of championships that led to a action packed days racing. Protech Shocks Sport Specials Race 1: Rain was the order of the day, just when the rain started to get a bit lighter it just keeps on coming. This made for some tricky conditions for the Sport Specials, but the drivers coped well despite the rain and there was some good action on track. #3 Clive Hudson and #82 Rob Johnston spent the whole race fighting for first place with Johnston trying everything he could to get past however Hudson managed to keep him behind to take the race win. There where only two non-finishers which were #15 Paul Collingwood in the Eclipse SM1 after one lap and #50 Russell Clarke in the Mazda MX150R after 5 Laps
ROC Bikesports Race 1: The rain was still very heavy by the time the Bikesports had there first race. As a result the drivers weren't really able to fully go for it on track and had to take special care in the rain due to the puddles of water that formed on corner apex's, however the drivers coped well with the rain and still managed to have some food battles out on track. #5 Philip Cooper managed to take advantage of the tricky conditions and pull ahead of the rest of the field winning the race by an impressive 36.29 seconds to 2nd place #47 Alan Hogg. It was a close battle between 3rd and 4th place with Joe Stables taking 3rd place by 0.87seconds over #50 Doug Carter. #2 Darcy Smith in the Radical SR4 was forced to retire on lap 4. #12 Jason Stowe and#90 Philip Knibb were unable to start the race.
Teqiwa Civic Cup Race 1: There was some exciting racing largely due to the rain still pouring down on track. #45 Carl Swift had to start from the pits but this didn't seem to slow him down, it was a great first race from him finishing 4th overall negotiating his way through most of the field in the slippery conditions. There was a lot of action in the middle of the field with drivers slipping and sliding around on the wet track. There was a close race between the top three with lots a wheel to wheel action. New comer to the series # Grise made a good start to the season, being second for most of the race and having a good battle with #46 Peerless who pushed him for most of the race, forcing him into a slid down Cascades and overtaking however Grise managed to retake the place, but had a collision the race winner #44 Higginson out of Old Hall onto The Avenue on the closing stages of the race which resulted in him hitting the barrier, he did however manage to recover the car and finish an impressive 3rd with Carl Swift hot on his heels.
Disklok RGB Championship Race 1: The track was still drying out for the first RBG race of the day so the track was slighty greasy though this s=din't stop the action on track with drivers squabbling over position on track and overtaking at any opportunity. It was a straight forward race for the two Spire GT3 and GT3 S at the top of the field after #30 Oliver Hewitt in his Mittell MC-53 managed to damage the front of the car on Hilltop Straight pushing his down the filed and finishing 7th overall. There were three retirements #46 Charlie Thomas in a Mittell MC-52 on lap 8 just before the end of the race, #33 Billy Albone in a Spire GT3 on lap 2 and #66 Max Windheuser in a Spire GT3 on Spire GT3. Unfortunately #12 Jason Stowe was unable to start the race in his Spire GT3
5Club Mazda MX-5 Cup Race 1: The first Mazda Mx-5 race got underway on a damp track with meant a lot of action a wheel to wheel action form the low powered sports car, there was definitely no shortage of slipping and sliding and overtaking. Ben Short and Sam Smith where squabbling over the lead for the whole race with Ben Short taking the win. Will Blackwell-Chambers followed the lead pair around ready close enough to take advantage if the leaders made a mistake but not close enough to overtake outright. There was lots of action in the middle of the pack with #9 Ian Tomlinson having to retire following a collision resulting in damage to the left front of hid car. #75 Nick Le Doyen spent most of the race dragging him bumper around behind him before eventually going into the pits to get it removed and finishing a lap down.
Cartek Roadsports Endurance Race: It was a good start from #68 Steve Hewson in his turbo charged Peugeot 106 GTi which is surprisingly fast down the straights, giving the biggest more powerful cars a run for their money which were also in a totally different class to him. It was a good race from Hewson who had a mostly clean race until the last lap where he came off at lodge though this didn't effect the final positions. As with most endurance races they can be won or lost in the pits and that's certainly where #5 Alec Lively won the race. After Hewson pitted, Lively had a clear road ahead (apart from traffic) to eat up the time and when it came to his pit stop he was still ahead, however Hewson wasn't far behind him. Also driving in the race was #28 Neal Martin in his turbo VW Caddy van which was a very interesting sight on track and throughout the race was battling to keep the BMW M3's of #8 Peter Isherwood and #44 of Andy Marston/Brett Evans. Unfortunately Martin was excluded from the race for using the incorrect tyres. There were only two non-finishers which were brothers Jack and George Wright in #48 Porsche 944 and Warren Allen in the #65 Ginetta G27R
Protech Shocks Sport Specials Race 2: With the track drying out the Sport Specials could properly go for it and again #3 Clive Hudson and #8 Rob Johnston were battling for position and pulling away from the rest of the pack and towards the end of the race lapping the slower cars. Eventually Johnston managed to squeeze his Cyana MK2 past Hudson's Eclipse SM1 to take 1st place and the victory. 3rd place man from race 1 #6 John Moore in his Arrow 2 has to retire form the race on lap 7 with #a9 Martin Buckland in his STM Phoenix on lap 5 being the only retirements.
ROC Bikesports Race 2: With the track drying up and a clear dry racing line the Bikesports could really show us what they were made off and they most certainly did. There was some good battles all around the circuit with the #90 Radical SR3 of Philip Knibb mixing in with the Radical PR6's of Philip Cooper and Joe Stables. It was a good come back for Knibb in Race 2 having been unable to start Race 1 due to a broken driveshaft in qualifying. The team managed to get the parts shipped from Northampton in time for Race 1. It was a Non-finish for #Jason Stowe again in Race 2 having broken down on the green flag lap. There were only two retirements in Race 2 which were #46 Chris Child and #47 Alan Hogg who had finished 2nd in Race 1.
Teqiwa Civic Cup Race 2: With the track now mostly dry it gave the drivers a chance to go for it. Unfortunately for this race we wouldn't have Race 1 winner Mark Higginson #44 who didn't partake in the race. #81 Lewis Rose managed to get his car fixed in time to race after a heavy front impact in Race 1 that left his car less then race worthy, he did well to fix his car and get some track time finishing 20th in Race 2. There was a heavy incident for #52 Simon Deaton on Hilltop straight where he hit the barrier and bounced across the track resulting in him only having 3 wheels attached. Carl Swift was on the pace again in Race 2 starting 7th on the grid and making his way up to 2nd. Andrew Gaugler started 2nd on the grid but was gifted the lead when Deaton went off, he managed to fend of Swift's attack until the end of the race.
Disklok RBG Championship Race 2: With the track most dried out this was the time for the RGB cars to show us what they could really do, however after an incident on the first lap at Deer Leap involving the #23 of Doug Lague and #68 Matt Higginson caused a red flag. The accident was quickly cleared away and both drivers were fine. The cars lined up for the restart but a lap into the restart it was 4 a breast in Old Hall which didn't end well, #1 Scott Millet and #87 Andrew Nelson both ended up in the wall causing a red flag. With both cars having to be taken off on flat bed trucks the race would not restart again. 5Club Mazda MX-5 Cup Race 2: After a red flag on the first lap due to a first corner incident at Old Hall the race restarted and the action continued with the Race 1 winner Ben Short finishing in 8th position and Race 1 second place man finishing in third place. However it was #29 Adam Bessell that took the win of the final race of the day with a 3.53 second lead over second place man #105 Roger Chesneau. There was only one retirement from this race which was #43 Will Blackwell-Chambers on lap 2 who had finished 3rd in Race 1.
